Guest Editorial: G.I.R.L. 2017 Delegate Victoria Jacobs

Thousands of girls and those who support them from around the globe came together in Columbus, Ohio to attend G.I.R.L. 2017, hosted by Girl Scouts of the USA, in early October. The event included panels and breakout sessions on issues facing girls today, with sessions featuring female leaders from organizations and companies such as Facebook, Instagram, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and AT&T.

This awesome event also included our 54th national council session, attended by both girl and adult delegates from Western Ohio and other councils. What do the delegates do? They are tasked with reinvigorating our Movement, celebrating our accomplishments, and charting our future. Big tasks, right?

So what’s it like being a delegate at ...

Guest Editoral: Girl Scout Kelly Tracey

Did you know Girl Scouts can change your life? I started as a Daisy in Kindergarten and now I am a Cadette in eighth grade. That’s almost nine years in Girl Scouts—and I plan to be a Girl Scout for life! I do not regret a single second of my journey so far. Girl Scouts is not only about having fun—I’ve learned how to help others, become a better community volunteer, and gotten to work with other girls my age. I would not be where I am today without Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts is a big part ...

Simplifying the Girl Scout Cookie Program

Parents and caregivers want their girls to have the absolute best opportunities to grow into G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders)™. But with busy schedules, it can be hard to fit in all of the amazing opportunities available to girls.  Because of this, parents are often forced to pick and choose the activities that take precedence with time and availability.

My name is Lily Collins and I have been in Girl Scouts for 10 years this year. I joined as soon as I was old enough. My mom had always wanted to lead her own troop if she ever had a daughter. Being in Girl Scouts has been an AMAZING experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I have been to many different place because of Girl Scouts, one of my most recent expeditions was to London, England! It was SO amazing!

Reasons to Build STEM Skills (Even When She’s Not Going into a STEM Career)

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) has been getting a lot of attention and a lot of press lately. And while STEM has always been a part of the Girl Scout movement, Girl Scouts of the USA recently released new STEM badges and unveiled STEM as one ...

Guest Editorial: Girl Scout Alex Stelter

My name is Alex Stelter. I am a senior in high school and a Girl Scout—since kindergarten. My Girl Scout experience has changed my life.

Since joining the organization 13 years ago, I have had many adventures, including traveling around the United States and the world. I have also gone to camp, whitewater rafting, and participated in leadership conferences and the Girl Scout Cookie Program—Girl Scouts’ main fundraiser. As you can see, Girl Scouts is not just about camp and ...

Inclusion in Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization. We respect, value, and embrace the differences of all of our members and the community around us.

We’re part of a wonderfully diverse sisterhood, like a quilt with thousands of different squares all stitched together. No two squares are exactly alike! Some of our differences you see, and some you don’t.

There are biological differences like sexual orientation, ethnicity, personality, gender, physical abilities, ...

It’s Your World — Change It: No Straw November

At Girl Scouts, we build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. This is true not only for girls in western Ohio, but for girls all across the country! Which is why we were so excited to learn that a Girl Scout working on her Gold Award project in San Juan Bautista, California was making waves in Ohio!

For her project, Shelby O’Neil wanted to tackle ocean pollution and ocean education. Growing up in central California, she’s ...
